Marcus Newman
The globally renowned Creamfields electronic festival has come to Australia for the first time in 2010. A diverse line up that seemed to be catering for a mixture of young and old, it included the likes of The Bloody Beetroots, MSTRKRFT, Ferry Corsten, LMFAO, Dave Clarke, Marco V, Green Velvet, Dirty South, Kid Sister, Joris Voorn and many more.

Arriving late in the afternoon we caught Melbourne’s own Dirty South, where he pumped his usual brand of house. The crowd was noticeably excited when he played a remix/sample of Daft Punk’s Aerodynamic.

Followed by Green Velvet it was noticeable a few people left when they got on, but the crowd filled back up again as they played their own brand of electro tech. It would be easy to say that “La La Land” was the favourite but the classic Flash, was definitely the stand out. “Camaras ready, prepare to flash!

Steve Angello didn’t make the tour after pulling out for personal reasons, so Ferry Corsten filled that gap and played a 2 1/2 set. Similar to his Melbourne set last year, Ferry played his epic tunes mainly from Twice In A Blue moon, but pulled out classics like L.E.F and Punk.

I don’t want to sound old, but it was a very young crowd and to their credit, they were very well behaved from what I saw. The crowd seemed to mainly stay in the main arena so the the other stages were very easy to navigate.

We briefly saw Joris Voorn and Acid Jacks who both had crowds bouncing away.

Finally we decided to settle in to watch Marco V finish the night. The Bloody Beetroots and Dave Clarke would probably have been a sight to see but it was the dutch master I’d come to rock out too. I managed to wave him down before the set, get a photo, and talk about a little bit about our communications on twitter. He was very nice, and gave me a signed copy of Propaganda Pt 2. Marco jumped on the decks crafting Tydi’s last track to sound like a dying heartbeat before starting his own set despite Tydi being a little bit distracting climbing the barriers and having photos taken with his fans. Marco’s set contained bombs form Propaganda Pt 1 and 2, and also from his latest ep release Greed. The set was a driven mix between progressive and trance and could have been in the main arena.
I know, I know.. I look pretty excited!

Overall Creamfields was quite successful with not too many people and a diverse range of music. I’m not sure whether it was a sell out, but if the promoters bring it back next year, I’d be happy to go again.
